New fast-curing hydrophilic coating for medical devices
Fort Washington, PA (September 9, 2003) - Biocoat, Inc., an R&D company specializing in biomaterials coatings for medical device applications, has announced their new HYDAK® FAST-CURE hydrophilic coatings system.
HYDAK® coatings are based on hyaluronan, a unique biopolymer. They were originally developed to provide extremely lubricious, durable, biocompatible coatings. Available by license from Biocoat, they found widespread application in interventional catheters and guide wires manufactured and sold in the U.S., Europe, and Japan.
The new HYDAK FAST-CURE system dramatically reduces curing cycle times and improves productivity. Medical device manufacturers will now be able to complete the curing process in an hour, or less.
"The new system is the result of several years of development, in cooperation with our licensees. The process is fast, simple, and the performance is improved over our first generation coatings," said William W. Work, Ph.D. who headed the development.
The FAST-CURE system uses an organic solvent and complements Biocoat's new solvent-free coatings introduced in 2001.
Biocoat licenses its patented and proprietary HYDAK biomaterials coatings technologies to manufacturers of medical devices. In addition, the company also manufactures the new HBA In Vitro Diagnostic Assay.
