New solvent-free hydrophilic coatings for catheters and guide wires.

Fort Washington, PA - Biocoat, Inc. announces the development of two new solvent-free coatings for use by manufacturers of medical devices.

The coatings (U.S. patent pending) are based on the company's established emulsion polymer technology and offer superior adhesion to stainless steel and other metallic or polymeric substances. And because they contain no organic solvents, they can be applied to plasticized PVC and other polycarbonate substrates normally subject to solvent attack. They are also easy to clean up, not flammable and eliminate the need for primers requiring high temperature curing.

The new two-part system is hydrophilic, lubricious, durable, and biocompatible. The base coat is an aqueous emulsion, HYDAK DC-8, and the top coat, HYDAK A-16 us an aqeous solution of hydrophilic polymers.

HYDAK® Coatings are based on hyaluronan, a unique biopolymer naturally present in all tissues and body fluids. These unique coatings are gaining wide acceptance among catheter and guidewire manufacturers due to the improved performance characteristics surgeons experience when using devices employing these coatings.

Biocoat, Inc. develops and licenses biomaterials coatings technologies for medical device manufacturers. For technical details on coatings solutions and applications processes, call 215-654-1377, or visit the company's web site at www.biocoat.com.
